Charles lebte im Alter von 17 bis 25 nicht zuhause. Im Jahr seiner Rückkehr nach Hause starb Charles' Vater. Besuchte 1928 mit seinen Eltern Walchwil und Oberriet (wiederholte den Besuch 1970). Arbeitete als Mathematik-Lehrer: « I taught geometry to 2nd year students (15 year-olds) and calculus to 4th year students (17 year-olds). ». 2018 lebte er in einem Heim in St. Louis. Seine Schwester Martha schrieb Ende 2018 über ihn: "Charlie seems comfortable at 133 lbs and he walks with the walker about 40 to 50 steps but an aide stays with him and holds on to a belt that is on Charlie - also sometimes they push the wheelchair behind him - in case he has to sit down quickly. Once, every day Charlie wheels himself into the hallway where there is a railing. He wheels up to the rail and locks the wheelchair and then grabs the handrail and pulls himself up straight and stands for about 5 seconds and then sits down. He tries to do the stand-ups five times - sometimes he is tired and can only do it one time - but he is making progress.". Als Charles noch in New York lebte, verfasste er jedes Jahr eine Übersicht zu den Vorkommnissen seines Jahres. Nach diversen Krankheiten und Unfällen lebte er 2020 in einer Altersresidenz in St. Louis, wo seine Schwester Martha schon lange wohnte.

Nachruf
Charles F. Stieger passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at the age of 96. Beloved son of the late Charles and Agatha (Blattler) Stieger; dearest brother and brother-in-law of the late Edwin A. and Ellie (Turner) Stieger and Martha and Paul Strifler; beloved uncle of Michael Stieger, Kenneth Strifler, Chris Ozols, Lynn Obacz, and Joan Tod; wonderful cousin to many Swiss relatives; admired math teacher by the faculty and students at Lynbrook HS, NY.
Charlie was esteemed by the Physical therapy Department of Mercy Hospital (Rockville Centre, NY) for his many years of volunteer work as a transporter. Charlie was a friend to all in the Harmonica Club (Massapequa, NY), the Village Art Club (Rockville Centre, NY), and to his neighbors on Maplewood Dr. S. (Wantagh, NY).
Charles was the greatest humorist and will be loved and missed by all.
